What is Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT)? - Glaucoma Glossary
SLT is an advanced ophthalmic laser procedure that applies low-energy light to the trabecular meshwork to stimulate a biochemical tissue-remodeling response, enhancing aqueous outflow.
What it means for the patient
This is a gentle, painless laser treatment done in the clinic. It helps "unclog" your eye's natural drain filter. It is often used as a first-line alternative to daily eye drops, keeping your eye pressure under control for several years.
Clinical significance
SLT is indicated as primary therapy (LiGHT Trial) or adjunctive treatment for POAG. Because it does not cause thermal damage to the meshwork, it is repeatable, offering a highly effective non-compliance-dependent reduction in IOP.
How it is tracked
SLT dates are anchored as clinical events on the timeline, allowing instant visual assessment of post-intervention IOP decline over succeeding months.
