What is Target Intraocular Pressure? - Glaucoma Glossary
Target IOP is an individualized therapeutic pressure goal established by the clinician, estimated to prevent further ongoing glaucomatous damage based on the severity of the disease at presentation.
What it means for the patient
There is no universal "safe" eye pressure. Your target pressure is a custom goal your doctor sets for you. If your glaucoma is severe, your target pressure must be kept extremely low to stop further damage.
Clinical significance
Target IOP is continually reassessed based on functional VFI progression rates. Failure of structural stability below a set target dictates a revision of the target downward, generally by a 20% further reduction.
How it is tracked
The primary utility of the Glaucoma One dashboard is displaying the green "Safe Zone" band. When the patient's True Corrected IOP slips above this target threshold, clinicians are visually prompted to escalate therapy.
